Dear Cardiff City FC Supporters, we the Save Withybush Action Team (SWAT) supporters are protesting on 16th April 2016 at 11.00 am at the SENEDD against the downgrading of 24/7 Paediatric, Consultant led Obstetric Service and Special Care Baby Unit from Withybush General Hospital. We are aware that you will be coming in huge numbers to support the match against QPR on 16th April 2016 at Cardiff City Stadium. We would be ever so grateful if you could support us at the SENEDD in Cardiff between 11.00-13:00 pm.
Thank you
SWAT Supporters
Over the last 10 years we have held many noisy demonstrations to try and maintain essential services in Pembrokeshire at Withybush Hospital. They seemed to work for a time but then Mr Drakeford decided to ignore us all behind his soundproof glass at the Senedd. We are now asking you to join us in a different approach. We want you to spend 15 minutes of your day contemplating how badly we have all been affected by the loss of essential services.
We have decided to ask you all to be silent for 15 minutes every day at 12.45 pm from Monday 1st February 2016. We want you to stop doing anything that is not an emergency. We would you like you to pull over in the car, switch off or don't answer your phones and sit in silence just for those 15 minutes. We would like you to reflect on what the loss of essential services means to you, your family and your friends and what you would like to see happen in the future. This may interfere with the economy of Pembrokeshire and Wales for a time but we need the politicians to start listening again and return Consultant led Obstetrics, Paediatrics and SCBU to Withybush. The time is right because an election is just around the corner and it is the only time politicians are interested in us!
We are also planning to start an E - petition and paper petition to try and bring back these services that are essential in Pembrokeshire and have been taken away by Carwyn Jones and Mark Drakeford. Please keep an eye out for further notices about this coming soon. We are also planning a Silent Protest at the Senedd on Saturday 16 April 2016. More details click here
The SWAT Team
On the 15th of January 2013, AGAINST THE VALID VIEWS OF YOU, THE PUBLIC, who they are duty bound to serve, Hywel Dda Health Board announced THAT THEY WILL IMPLEMENT MANY OF THE PROPOSALS SET OUT IN THEIR ORIGINAL DOCUMENT. The Health Board has not deviated much from their original plans made in 2010 despite rational objections from the public and health professionals. They will continue to make all the changes in their 2010 document and we have to stop them now.
Most of us may not remember the suffering of the people of Pembrokeshire prior to the 1970s. The death march in 1970 demonstrated the will of the Pembrokeshire people to demand high quality essential secondary health care and they achieved this when Withybush opened in 1978.This situation has NOT changed and remains the same. However, this Health Board and NHS Wales feel that the changes proposed would suit 'the majority' of the population of West Wales (about 200,000 around Carmarthen). They are happy to leave the Pembrokeshire population (120,000) at higher risk and ultimately with a 3rd class secondary health care service locally and a lot of travelling East for many patients and their relatives. This is a serious issue considering that the population in the East has better access to and more choice of specialist services and secondary health care. Further, the proposed changes plan to move both Obstetrics, SCBU & General Paediatric services to Glangwili very soon. Hywel Dda Health Board has clearly stated that they cannot promise to maintain these services at Withybush Hospital.
