PAST ACTIVITIES

The Demonstration on Saturday 4th January 2014 was a resounding success with over 700 demonstrators peacefully protesting against the proposed health service cuts. The next action is planned for the weekend after the Health Minister's announcement on 21st January 2014. Pembrokeshire people - babies, children, young people, adults and the elderly & diasabled protested in front of Withybush Hospital.

THE MEETING ON 21 NOVEMBER 2013 AT PICTON CENTRE was very well attended (nearly 200 people). There were a significant number of young people attended and expressed their support for SWAT . A vote of 'no confidence' on the Hywel Dda Health board management was passed unanimously.

12th Novenber 2013

The Health Board's Plans are now in the open. Everyone must now realise that SWAT has always told the truth and those in charge at hywel dda have been trying to hide it. The fight to save services starts in earnest. With the support of the prople of Pembrokeshire we can stop these disastrous changes from happening.

24th May 2012 SWAT visit Lesley Griffiths, Health Minister, and are well received. Mrs Griffiths listened to our presentation and hopefully took note of the failings of Hywel Dda Health Board Senior Executives.
As a result of that meeting, the Health Minister has responded by writing to Hywel Dda Health Board. Read more

May 2012 Pathology laboratory services are moving to Glangwili- yet more evidence of downgrading by stealth!

Another St David's meeting!  28th April 11.30. Arranged by local people who are going to form a local action group.

St David's meeting: very lively!.  The audience were shocked to hear of the options that propose removal of our Core Services. Report here.

Public meeting at St David's. Friday 13th April 7.30 p.m. at City Hall, St David's. If you are in the area please try to come (unless of course you suffer from friggatriskaidekaphobia). We shall be succinctly telling you what the real threats are, despite Health Board denials, and how to submit feedback to them. This is where you can make a difference, every little bit helps.

Confused?  Look at an easy summary of the issues here.

The 29th March protest was a success, attracting about 200 people and the press. We now have a Withybush song! See full report and Board response here.

15th March.  Plans are going ahead. We are staging a Demonstration outside Withybush Hospital on Thursday 29th March at 12.45 p.m. We hope you will attend to help publicize the very real risks to Withybush services despite the Health Board being very quiet about their true intentions. Find some banners and placards here or use your own ideas.

Several public meetings have been arranged, the first is arranged for Friday the 23rd March at 7.30 p.m. in St. Mary's Community Hall, Fishguard. Come to hear about the issues and contribute your views.

Campaign time.  SWAT is in the process of setting up events. We hope to have a full program arranged within three weeks or so. See our preliminary comments here.

End of February 2012. The Health Events have finished. The Health Board have undertaken to publish a feedback report from ORS (Opinion Research Services), and to embark on a formal consultation process in May (though we have had several deferments of this in the past). You can have your say easily now. Please look at this link to give your feedback and express your opinion.

New. SWAT phone number. If you would rather not use emails etc., you can phone us on 02921251616. Leave a message with your contact details and we will respond as soon as possible.

Remainder of February 2012.  The Hywel Dda Health Fairs. See Calendar for details. SWAT is sceptical about the efficacy of these and believes the Health Board should agree to attend Public Meetings where open debate can be conducted. Nonetheless we recommend you attend and ask searching questions. Also ask for written responses, and for where you will see documentation of all the feedback eventually received. We have a document you can use as a starting point for your questions - see Downloads.

February 7th. SWAT members had a meeting with the Chairman of the Health Board. Report of this meeting here.

February 2nd. Peter spoke to the Pembrokeshire U3A who will shortly publish a report on their website.

The Picton Centre was packed for the January 20th meeting. Click here to see a report of it.

January 20th. Our first PUBLIC MEETING of 2012. Please publicize this amongst your friends and attend if you can. It is at 7.30 p.m. in the Picton Centre, Haverfordwest (to the left of County Hall). Look at the flyer in the Downloads section of this site.

December 19th.  Health Board announce their "listening exercise". Documents made public outlining the issues and options. Read more about this here.

December 14th.  Winter cuts or Permanent cuts? From April 2012 the Health Board plans to continue with the bed cuts started before Christmas. What is happening in Carmarthen? Are their beds increasing to take up the slack? We have a right to know, because if they are, this would be centralization by the back door - before our public have even been presented with options for change. Read more about this here.

November 30th. Publicity about a new series of bed cuts and re-allocations, starting tomorrow. Are these "operational" changes as claimed by the Health Board, so not subject to consultation, or are they "significant" ones, in which case they are. Have a look at the facts here.

November 24th has been and gone. As we have come to expect, further deferment. A statement was issued, and there is continuation of the so-called "engagement" process till well into the New Year. Meanwhile changes are actually taking place - though supposedly they are yet to be discussed with the public. For more detail, click here.

Yet more delay in announcements!  till December ... or sometime in 2012? See latest information.

November 24th. Date of the next Health Board public meeting. They have stated that they expect a public consultation to commence soon afterwards.

October 5th. SWAT understands that the Health Board has now submitted its proposals to the Welsh Assembly - probably on Monday October 3rd. Most people remain in the dark about exactly what these proposals are.

September 28th. There has been another Health debate in the Welsh Assembly. Further details.

September 21st. Health Minister announces a new "National Clinical Forum". This is to be composed of medical and other experts to oversee the various local plans. SWAT views this with scepticism - it will cause more delay and uncertainty with risk of further loss of services by default, and such bodies are notorious for being short on experience with rural hospital practice. So they come up with counsels of perfection that are impossible to fulfil in a rural setting, and can actually be dangerous. See further details here.

September 17th. Still no announcements.  SWAT believes that announcements may be deferred even beyond the end of September, and that the Health Board may try to avoid a public consultation (that is possible under the Welsh Assembly rules). For more detail click here.

August 24th. The Health Minister Leslie Griffiths has turned down a request from SWAT for a meeting. We have legitimate issues to put to her so this won't be the last you hear of it.  You can find her letter here.

August 16th-18th. We've had a successful 3 days at the show having discovered a huge depth of feeling not only among the locals but also in visitors to the area. See our Blog.

16th-18th August. County Show. Visit our stand in the Pavilion, Withybush Showground. On those dates you can text us on 07932380684.

9/8/11. We now understand that the Health Board meetings will be even later than originally planned and that as a result we are unlikely to get any decision from the Welsh Assembly until the end of September. Therefore the consultation period is unlikely to start before October.

13/07/2011 Public meetings for July are CANCELLED, because no announcements were made at Health Board meeting. New consultation period expected to be September-October. See Calendar for further information.

05/07/2011 Download the SWAT Newsletter in preparation for the HDHB announcements 13th July, and subsequent public meetings on 15th and 22nd July (see Downloads and Calendar).
